Cuthbert Ga: 100% Gassing need to save FOUR dogs!! (RESCUED)

Gassing Shelter with 100% KILL rate!

4/29 UPDATE:
Both Ernie and Shelia still need rescues, ASAP!! The two puppies (Elmer and Pistol) have been rescued! YEAH! Thank you!

If these 2 remaining dogs do not get rescue help BY April 30th, (TOMORROW), then there is a VERY GOOD chance that this shelter will just continue gassing 100 percent of the animals there, and decide to not work with rescuers at all.

These dogs only have until April 30th 2009

Hi all,

Chances are you've heard that Cuthbert, a small GAS shelter with a 100% kill rate, has recently decided to try rescue/adoption for the first time ever. Two
volunteers are allowed to place 4 dogs but they only have until APRIL 30 to find rescues for them. If they fail, that's the end of the effort to make positive changes at Cuthbert. PLEASE help get these dogs to safety!
These are good dogs who deserve a chance. And if we can manage to save these 4, then all the dogs who end up at that shelter will have a chance to get out safely.

Please help if you can!!

Contact Laurie Montford if you can help these dogs!

Email Laurie here: lfmontfort3@gmail.com
Ernie - 45 pound intact 1 to 1 1/2 year old brindle pit mix male, sweet, easy to handle

Sheila - 40 pound 1 year old shepherd/chow/golden mix female, very sweet, easy to handle, not spayed

Elmer - 10 pound male 3 to 4 month old lab/terrier mix, friendly but very shy, sad, and afraid. Mistreated by his brother Pistol.

They have had their 1st distemper/parvo vaccinations and been dewormed twice.

Grace needs US *At the Rainbow Bridge now

4/26 1:13 AM - Sunday - Gracie...
Gracie crossed the Rainbow Bridge early this morning. (For Gracie's complete story, please see http://www.lab-retriever.net/board/emergency-chip-help-t7323586.html ) I find it hard to stop my tears from flowing as I think about what could have been for this beautiful dog. Gracie valiantly fought for almost a week against pneumonia, parvo, and numerous intestinal parasites. It is truly amazing that she had the strength to fight for so many days. Sadly, Gracie's body couldn't fight any longer. Gracefully, her spirit and soul live on. Run free beautiful, sweet Gracie. We will miss you...

Jenn.

Grace was rescued from a Georgia shelter but she is VERY sick. The vet is trying to do everything to help her. Please help if you can! Her vet bill are already estimated to be at least $1,000.

http://rescuedonation.chipin.com/gracie

You can also send donations directly to the vet taking care of Gracie.
North Dekalb Veterinary Clinic
2485 Lawrenceville Highway
Decatur, GA 30033
(404) 321-7756
Dr. Max Katz is Gracie's vet. They have a fund set up for Gracie so please specify that your check is a donation for her.

4/25 UPDATE: Good morning all. I heard from the vet early this morning that Grace got up and walked around in her cage last night! Unfortunately, she is still throwing up and can't keep anything down. Her WBC count is also back down in the 600s. That's not great news.
Dr. Katz felt that it was in Gracie's best interest to keep her at his clinic. He decided that he didn't want to move Gracie. He felt that it would be too much for her. So, although they are closed over the weekend, one of the vet techs has volunteered to take care of Gracie. I feel that Gracie is so blessed to be in this vet's care.
Whenever I get updates I will post as quickly as I can. This one is from my bb so I don't know how it will turn out.
Please consider that Gracie is not with a rescue group. Nell and I are paying Gracie's vet bills ourselves. They are already topping $1200 and climbing daily. We just don't know when (notice I didn't say "if") she will be able to come home.
SO PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make a donation. We have received large donation and small donations. Every dollar helps.
Other ways you can help:
You can crosspost for Gracie. If you need help with doing this , send me a PM.
You can tell your family, friends, and neighbors about Gracie and ask them to help.
My kids are going to do a fundraiser at their school. They are 5, 7, and 8 and came up with this on their own.
Most importantly, please pray for Gracie.
Thank you all so much for all of your kind words and support.

Wishing you Grace,
Jenn.

4/21 - Tuesday AM - Sweet Gracie is Sick
Gracie is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met. She's between 8 and 10 months old and a whopping 50 pounds with huge paws to grow into. Unfortunately, she is quite sick right now. She has an upper respiratory infection which I'm hoping is not turning into pneumonia. She has thick green mucous coming out of her nose, and her lungs definitely sound junky. She's running a very high fever of 105.5 and this is with Metacam in her system. Thankfully, she's still drinking and peeing. I am on our way to the vet's office and will update later.

4/21 - Tuesday PM - Gracie has PNEUMONIA!!!
Sweet Gracie is very sick. But, she is in great hands right now and will stay at the vet's office for the next several days. X-Ray has confirmed what the vet thought - Gracie has pneumonia. She also has round worms, hook worms and tape worms. Additionally, she has elevated white cells - and a low red count. She's running a 105.5 temp with Metacam dosed at 10:30 last night. She's extremely anemic too. Thankfully, she's HW neg.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help me and Nell pay Gracie's vet bills! Once again - here's the link to the chipin.

4/22 - Wednesday AM - Gracie has PARVO!!!
Please make a contribution to help Gracie. Our vet bill is well over $700 now. Gracie is literally fighting for her life. She has the usual parasites, as well as a horrible case of pneumonia and to top it off PARVO! I nearly cried this morning when I heard that she threw up her b'fast. Several hours later I got the report that Gracie had bloody diarrhea. Within minutes, I got the call that she had the dreaded Parvo...

4/22 - Wednesdy PM - Gracie is fighting for her life
I spoke to the vet about an hour ago. He said Gracie is still very puny. She's having a rough time of things with three major things going on at once. Gracie has a bad case of parvo and it's hard for her to fight it with pneumonia and parasites too. Her immune system has taken a real beating. The vet is hoping he doesn't get called to come in during the night. He's not not being overly optimistic that she will pull through this / but not pessimistic either. Every night that she makes it brings her closer to getting better....
I pray that she makes it through the night...
Gracie is a dog worth fighting for. Please help us help her.

URGENT: Goregous labs need rescue from Henry Co!!!

UPDATE: These two still need rescue or adoption. They are now URGENT.
Gavin the Yellow Lab is such a handsome guy, he was fabulous while walking with us on a leash and very happy to meet all the shelter visitors. He appears to be a very well rounded dog.

Forrest is a lovely BIG neutered boy who was picked up running at large and not reclaimed. We know his family is out there somewhere, he looks well cared for and is surely out of sorts in the kennel. If Forrest had id tags or a microchip we could help him get home.

The Untold Story of Izzy the Black Dog

Hi there! My name is Izzy. Actually for most of my life, I didn’t even have a name. People either looked at me and were afraid because I’m a big black dog, or even worse they didn’t even notice me. It was like I did not even exist, even when I wagged my tail and tried to act my best. Somehow I ended up in this awful place called “the shelter”. And not just any shelter, I’m told, an awful gassing shelter. You see around here in Georgia they still gas animals like me.

So at first I thought the shelter wasn’t so bad. There was a roof over my head and food in my bowl. But then I started to get confused and lonely. I’d watch each day as people would come in and say hello to other dogs. In fact, I’d watch those same dogs actually leave, tails wagging, on a brightly colored leash with smiling humans. I kept thinking, wow, I’ll be next, right? Well I waited and waited and just got more and more lonely. It was just like on the streets outside the shelter all over again. No one wanted me, no one even noticed me. What could I do to make them want me? I would wag my tail, put on my biggest smile and wait patiently but no one came. I just kept waiting…

Until one day, I was told my time was up. What does that even mean? I knew something had to be terribly wrong. But you know what, my story did not end like most black dogs like me. No one came to lead me to the gas chamber. Instead, a very nice lady came and patted me on the head. She called gave me a name “Izzy!” I didn’t even know what to do!! I couldn’t believe it. Was this really true? Was I really being taken away from this place? She took me out of the shelter into the sunlight, and I felt like my life was just beginning. Then I got into her car and we took a road trip. I couldn’t stop my tail from wagging. She talked to me the whole way in a sweet voice, and I was just so happy. So now I’m safe, but I still need a forever home. I still need someone to love me and take care of me and call me their own, and more importantly call me by my name Izzy, and not just another black dog.

_____
Izzy was rescued from Spalding Animal control a gassing facility in Griffin, Georgia by All About Animals Rescue in March. He still needs his forever home. If you are interested in adopting this sweet boy please call All About Animals in Macon at All About Animals at (478) 621-5116 or Email: allaboutanimalsmacon@yahoo.com

Not all black dogs get out in the nick of time like Izzy. In fact most of them die in the shelter because they are overlooked. Many are killed in the gas chamber or through other means including heartstick. Let’s honor all of those who came before him and find Izzy a great home. Next time you see a black dog, don’t think of him or her as just a black dog. Give that dog a name and more importantly a home.

Gorgeous chocolate lab's time is way up! (RESCUED)!

Only have one pic of him right now. He is a big boy, could use to lose
some weight. He loves to chase a ball and has a lot of energy. He is grey on
the chin but I have no idea how old he is. He just loves attention. He has
not been tested around other animals but seems to do good around children.
No other info on him. He was a stray we picked up and no one has called
looking for him. He has been here at Putnam County Animal Control past his time
and I'm trying desperately to find him somewhere to go. The local rescue
groups are to capacity just like you are. Will be glad to send a full body
pic when I get one.
He is starting to get sad over past few days with a lack of appetite. His
time is WAY up, the shelter is getting too full and he will be next.
Please help him
