A little over two and a hal......f years old now, Brie has been an absolute joy, extremely loyal and affectionate, gentle and “cat friendly”. Fearful and shy with people & strangers at first, after a brief bark and sniff greeting, she is very friendly and will bring them a toy. Brie is housebroken, and quickly adapted to a routine. She barks to alert you when she needs to go out, knows what “go potty” means, and waits patiently for her “cookie” reward. She is a big girl (75 lbs.) and will readily crawl up in your lap for a nap. She sits on command and minds well. She’s very sociable with guests, great with all types of other dogs, cats and would be ideal with children.
Brie is amazingly intuitive, sweet, and loving, and looks deep into your eyes and into your soul. She loves me to talk to her and tell her what a beautiful girl she is, and will attempt to “talk” back, making little sounds as if to form words. She puts her paw in my hand to encourage more compliments, and loves to have her belly rubbed and feet massaged.
She is the perfect indoor dog, and is respectful of the boundaries you set. Because she is a “snuggler”, we’ve always welcomed her to sleep with us, nap on the sofa, and keep plenty of throws handy. I have spoiled her, and the only “dog bed” she’s ever known is mine which is shared with the two cats, so she might have to adapt to one on the floor. She loves the outdoors, walks, swimming in the pool, and games of toss. She loves to play chase around the house with the cats, and when tired, will snuggle up with them for a nap. I’m sure would do the same with other dogs.
Brie is very “motherly” and protective of the cats and will actually wake me when it’s time for them to eat. She will wait to eat her own food, until after the cats have eaten. If my older cat Bud is in the backyard, she accompanies him, and if he strays too far, will bark and “herd” him into the back door.
I’m not sure where she learned this, but Brie will cover you up with the blanket if you are lying down, or uncover you if it’s time to get up in the morning. To wake you, she will just come plop down all 75 lbs. on top of you in a dead sleep, until you get up.
Brie proved how incredibly compassionate rescue dogs can be when she rescued Ozzie, an abandoned black and white kitten from underneath our garden just a few months after we adopted her. She barked to alert us, and led us to the shed to investigate. Brie supervised every bottle feeding, and in that her velvet-soft nuzzle was the first he encountered before his eyes were open, Ozzie thinks Brie is his mother. Ozzie purrs only for Brie, and “makes biscuits” on her belly. To this day, they are inseparable, and if possible, it would be my greatest joy, to know that they can be together.
Ozzie the cat, is 1 yr. old now, neutered, has had all his vaccines, is micro-chipped and is litterbox trained. He is very animated, curious and playful, and only meows if he’s lonely, or loses sight of his mommy figure, Brie. He chirps like a bird. He’s comes off as being aloof, but actually prefers to be around everyone – just on his terms, of course. He lies across your desk as you work, sits on the edge of the tub, in the kitchen while you cook, curls up in the sink as you’re putting on your make-up, and sleeps with you, always with Brie close-by.
Brie has been my soul mate, and an exceptional dog. Ozzie, has been Brie’s “sidekick”, and a comical addition to the family.
I have the utmost respect for Frank and Becky and all the great contributions on behalf of ALR, and it is my most heartfelt wish that they can find a warm, loving home, where they can return the wonderful love and companionship that they have given us. My life has been enriched and joyful because of these animals, and I will continue my love and support for causes that sustain them and their well being.
Brie and Ozzie would be loving companions to any family!
